Architectural Accessibility
Museum “Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park in Chorzów”
A parking space for people with disabilities is designated in front of the main entrance. Assistance dogs are allowed on the museum premises.
The multifunctional administrative-exhibition building has two entrances adapted for people with mobility impairments. Both entrances provide access to an elevator inside the building, allowing access to each floor. The elevator control panel has Braille information; the elevator is equipped with a clear display showing the floor number. Elevator call buttons are adapted for visually impaired individuals.
Individuals with special needs can move around areas with controlled access during the Museum’s working hours, including access to the Museum’s secretariat. During exhibition opening hours, it is possible to visit temporary exhibitions on the ground floor and the first floor. High-contrast markings have been provided for the first and last steps of each staircase.
Publicly accessible restrooms with facilities adapted for people with limited mobility are located on the ground floor of the multifunctional building and within the exhibition area.
The Museum’s exhibition consists of historic wooden buildings, which have been adapted for people with disabilities by equipping them with portable entrance ramps. Visitors with special needs may tour the Museum with a caregiver or assistant. A sensory tour of the exhibition with a guide is also available (allowing visitors to explore exhibits through touch).
The Museum has a typhlographic plan designed for visually impaired visitors, displaying the layout of the entire area with key locations, and selected objects in the Museum have been equipped with YourWay Beacon devices.
The tannery building from Koniaków houses the exhibition “In Your Own Skin: Traditional Tanning.” This exhibition can be experienced sensorially and has been adapted for people with disabilities, including blind and visually impaired individuals. Above the leather samples, plaques with the names of the leathers in Braille have been placed—making them accessible to blind and visually impaired visitors. Additionally, a 3D-printed spatial model of the tannery’s interior is available. The entrance to the building has ramps, enabling visitors with mobility impairments to explore the exhibition.
Communication and Information Accessibility
The Museum’s website features a video in Polish Sign Language (PJM) and an Easy-to-Read (ETR) text describing the scope of the institution’s activities. The Museum also provides the presence of a Polish Sign Language (PJM) interpreter during designated events.
The Museum offers audio guides, which can be used with receivers for individuals with hearing aids, some of which have the capability to transmit recordings in Polish Sign Language (PJM).
To improve accessibility for people on the autism spectrum, the Museum has purchased noise-canceling headphones. These will be available for free rental during the anniversary exhibition, without the need for prior reservation.
