The Museum “Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park in Chorzów” and Upper Silesian Genealogical Society “Silius Radicum” invite you to participate in an international interdisciplinary scientific conference entitled “In the footsteps of the past … Genetic Genealogy in Prehistory and Historical Research”, to be held at the Museum’s headquarters on 21-22 June 2017.
Reconstruction and archival of genealogy of families living in villages of Upper Silesia is one of the important research projects undertaken at the Museum “Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park in Chorzów”. Its implementation has provided a number of insights pointing to the need for interdisciplinary analysis, including Opportunities for advances in genetic research. That is why we propose a reflection on genealogy from both a historical and a genetic perspective, pointing out new ways of analyzing and interpreting the proposed subject within anthropology, ethnology, history, archeology, natural sciences and more.
We invite you to present issues related to the methodology of genealogical studies in terms of both historical and genetic, the results of research in these areas, guidance on the possibility of their use in other fields of science. The subjects of interest of the organizers take into account the various spaces of socio-cultural research covering the question of studying the past in the context of analyzing the genealogical fate of man.
The conference will be accompanied by workshops for people looking to find information about their ancestors. Project SILESIA (Silesia, Schlesien, Family Tree DNA), which was created in 2016 by the Upper Silesian Genealogical Society “Silius Radicum”, will also be spread. Its main goal is to discover the rich genetic heritage of the Silesians and their descendants. For many centuries, Silesia was a place of migration of various nations and ethnic groups, which made it an extremely ethnically and culturally diverse region. The project is designed for each descendant of a person, male or female, rooted in historical Silesia.
